Walk 2 School Day - This Friday

17/05/2016

Our Travel Choice National Walk Safely to School Day is nearly here and we are really looking forward to this event. Walk2SchoolMapandInformaiton.docxWalk2SchoolMapandInformaiton.docx It is another way to promote community participation and encourage more sustainable and healthy ways to travel to school.

Please find details of our walk to school event. There will be 7 meeting points marked with an X, on the map below. Teachers will be leading groups to the school from these locations at 8.15 am sharp. Please be at your chosen location five minutes early. On the back of this note is our school’s Active and Safe Map showing the meeting points and the path we will take to school.

Upon arrival at school if you have walked, rode, or scootered to school you will receive a Bounty Green which will be collected when in class and go in the raffle for prizes that have been provided by Moreton Bay Regional Council and Amart Allsports. Also we have been a running a colouring in competition with prizes as well.

This event is for our school community to come together to promote healthy lifestyles and the environmental benefits of travelling to school in a ‘Fitter, Greener and Smarter’ way.  We encourage all students and their families to join us for this Travel Choice event day.

The objectives of National Walk to School Day are:

·        To encourage parents and carers to walk to school with primary school-aged children and reinforce safe pedestrian behaviour.

·        To promote the health benefits of walking and create regular walking habits at an early age.

·        Ensure children learn the safest locations to cross the road and developing the vital road-crossing skills they will need as they become mature pedestrians.

·        To reduce the car dependency habits that are being created at an early age.

·        To reduce the pollution caused by single occupancy vehicles.

·        To reduce the level of traffic congestion in school communities.

IN THE EVENT OF RAIN, THIS EVENT WILL STILL GO AHEAD - REMEMBER TO BRING UMBRELLAS AND RAIN COATS. WE WILL POSTPONE THE EVENT IF THE WEATHER INVOLVES HEAVY RAIN AND EXCESSIVE WIND.
