Naitonal Ride2School Day

22/02/2016

On Friday 4th March, Bounty will be celebrating the National Ride2School Day. This is also supporting the Moreton bay Regional Council and the TravelChoice Program that Bounty is a part of.

Our Travel Choice event this term, National Ride2School Day, is nearly here and we are really looking forward to this event. It is another way to promote community participation and encourage more sustainable and healthy ways to travel to and from school.

Please find details of our wheel to school event. There will be 3 meeting points (Aurora Boulevard bike rack, behind the main oval and Bounty Boulevard bike rack). Teachers will be leading groups to the school from these locations at 8.00 am sharp.

Upon arrival at school if you have wheeled and walked will receive stickers and go in the raffle for prizes that have been provided by Moreton Bay Regional Council. We have had a bike donated a 99Bikes that will be drawn on the day for the students who have wheeled or walked to school.

This event is for our school community to come together to promote healthy lifestyles and the environmental benefits of travelling to school in a ‘Fitter, Greener and Smarter’ way.  We encourage all students and their families to join us for this Travel Choice event day.

The objectives of National Ride2School Day are:

·         To encourage parents and carers to cycle, scooter or walk to school with primary school-aged children and reinforce safe wheeling behaviour.

·         To promote the health benefits of wheeling and create regular active and healthy travel habits at an early age.

·         To ensure that children understand what road signs mean.

·         To help children develop the vital road-crossing skills they will need as they become mature adults.

·         To reduce the car dependency habits that are being created at an early age.

·         To reduce the pollution caused by single occupancy vehicles.

·         To reduce the level of traffic congestion in school communities.

IN THE EVENT OF RAIN, THIS EVENT WILL STILL GO AHEAD - REMEMBER TO BRING UMBRELLAS AND RAIN COATS. WE WILL POSTPONE THE EVENT IF THE WEATHER INVOLVES HEAVY RAIN AND EXCESSIVE WIND.
