News from the front office
by Lynette Trye and Siobhan Watkins, Administration Officers
Welcome to the new school year – it is wonderful to see the pathways and classrooms filled with students again, many familiar and some new. We hope all children have settled well into their new classes and are looking forward to an exciting year of learning, love and laughter in 2012.

Today we distributed to all students (who are the youngest in their family) a series of permission and payment slips which will require your attention at the earliest convenience. This included important information on our
  • Voluntary Contribution Scheme 2012
  • Home and School Digital Resource Scheme 2012
  • Parents & Citizens Association, incorporating Volunteering & the Parent Liaison Network

We acknowledge that many of you who are newly enrolled in our school for 2012 may have received some of this paperwork with your enrolment package. If you have already completed and returned the documentation to the office, thank you and please disregard the new distribution. We would invite you, if possible, to return your duplicates for recycling to other new families that may enrol.

The Administration Office is open daily for processing of payments from 8.30am to 11.30am. Alternatively, we encourage payments via Electronic Funds Transfer and you will find appropriate details included with the information.

Please do not hesitate to ask at the front office if your child did not receive the above information or should you have any questions.

DIARIES AND PORTFOLIOS

For families who need to purchase the 2012 BBSS Student Diary or BBSS Student Portfolio as part of their child’s stationery requirements, please be advised that we now have stock available for sale in the front office. Please note the Student Diary is a requirement for Years 4 to 7 only. All Portfolios that were ordered and paid for as part of Edsco Book Packs have now arrived and have been distributed directly to classrooms.

P&C News on Facebook
by Heidi Clark, Secretary, Bounty Boulevard State School P&C
Hi Everyone

The P&C has created a Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/BountyBoulevardSSPandC. This site will be a trial over the next 2 months. We aim to get as many followers as possible.

We are utilising this networking tool to communicate P&C news as well as reminders for school activities for example Uniform Shop, Café and After Hours School Care information. The search name is ‘Bounty Boulevard State School P&C’ please “like” us.

Being part of Bounty Boulevard State School P & C provides an opportunity to meet other parents, develop and enable projects to improve our school resources and student learning opportunities. We have also been able to be a part of the decision making within the school, working closely with the Administration team.

We are an enthusiastic team who are always looking for assistance. We have some members who are unable to commit to the monthly meeting and choose to assist whenever they can, this may be on a special project.
We are extremely grateful to our team of dedicated members who together have helped to make this year a fantastic success. We have bought classroom resources for the school, donated to the Drama and Robotics clubs. We have increased our LIC resources through the ‘Book Week’ campaign and with the donation of many books. This has been achieved through activities like Disco’s, sausage sizzles, Father’s and Mother’s Day Stalls and the Twilight Market to name a few.

The P&C meets monthly on the first Wednesday of every month at 7pm
. Our first  meeting will be held on February 1, 2012. Our Annual General Meeting is held on the 7th of March at 7pm. At this meeting all current Office Bearers resign and nominations and elections take place for the 2012 positions. The General Meeting for March will follow the AGM at approximately 7:30pm. We would love to see you there.

School Chaplaincy Program at Bounty
by Annette Waterton, School Guidance Officer
Dear Parents, Carers, and School Community Members,

Bounty Boulevard State School is currently considering the needs in our developing and growing school community for a School Chaplaincy Program. During the first week of school, students will be given a School Chaplaincy survey to take home for parent/s and carer/s to complete.  The survey results will be used to determine the level of support from the community for a chaplaincy program to commence at Bounty Boulevard State School.

Scripture Union Queensland (SU Qld) is currently calling for applications from school communities to apply for funding through The National School Chaplaincy and Student Welfare Program.
The SU Qld is endorsed by Education Queensland as an employing authority for State School Chaplains. A 2009 national study (The Effectiveness of Chaplaincy by Dr Philip Hughes, Edith Cowan University and Prof. Margaret Sims, University of New England – Sept 2009) into the effectiveness of Chaplaincy in government schools found that:
  • 98% of School Principals surveyed said that Chaplaincy was making a major contribution to
school morale; it was proactive, unique, effective and important.
  • 92% of School Principals surveyed thought that it was highly important to continue to have a Chaplain serving in their school.
  • 73% of students surveyed believed their Chaplain was highly important in the school.

A School Chaplain may have a diverse role, and is generally based upon the identified needs of the school community. The school community works in collaboration with a School Chaplain to develop the role and responsibilities.

Chaplains generally offer spiritual and emotional support for the school community, and it is an optional support service. The School Chaplain generally works in unity with the already established Student Support Services within a school community.

The service is not linked with Religious Education in schools; however, it is linked with the Student Welfare Programs and is administered under the direction of the School Principal.

Parent / Carer consent is required for personalised consultation.

School Watch !
by Leann Griffith-Baker, Principal
Keep a watch on our school these holidays
With the holidays in full swing, it is important that we all look out for after-hours crime in schools. If you see anything suspicious, please remember to call the School Watch number – 13 17 88. The School Watch Program is a partnership between the Department of Education and Training, the Queensland Police Service and the State Government Protective Security Service. It aims to reduce vandalism, theft and arson in Queensland schools. If you do see something suspicious, please don’t attempt to intervene. Call 13 17 88 and let the local police or State Government Protective Security Service deal with the matter.
